This is Del Johnson's 12.5" f/5 Newtonian set up on his Dual-axis Equatorial Platform. There are two light baffles between the secondary mirror and the focuser. The minimalist upper structure significantly reduces the susceptibility to wind. The battery box contains two 12 volt/12 amp hr gel cells (24 amp hr total) to power the platform, his ST-4, the secondary mirror Dew Guard and a heater on the Telrad. The small telescope attached to the back of the Platform (by the blue chair) is a clever polar alignment scope that Del built for use with the Platform.
